WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT?

EXPLICIT EVERYTHING is home to a rotating line-up of stories, characters, and settings. Genres range from Slice-of-Life to Urban Fantasy to full-on Horror. We are committed to diverse, queer-friendly narratives, as well as representing independent art and business wherever we can. Our point-of-view is silly, sardonic, occasionally sinister, but most of all, sincere.

Why EXPLICIT EVERYTHING?

The PARENTAL ADVISORY: EXPLICIT CONTENT sticker was a warning label introduced by the Recording Industry Association of America in 1990, indicating explicit lyrics on audio recordings.

This was a compromise between the major labels and the Parents Music Resource Center, who wanted a more specific rating system indicating whether lyrics were sexual or violent, sacrilegious, etc. However, this opened up a bevy of free speech concerns, so a more generic warning was agreed upon.

The overall effectiveness of the label has always been in question. Even before the internet, young music fans found a way to listen to the music they wanted to, as they always have. To us, though, what is most interesting is the choice of the word “Explicit.”

The dictionary definition of “Explicit” is: “stated clearly and in detail, leaving no room for confusion or doubt.”

So in short, it just means making your point absolutely clear. Nothing very sexual or violent about that. And yet, thanks to this association, the phrase “Explicit Content” has a weight it perhaps hasn’t earned.

EXPLICIT EVERYTHING isn’t interested in being overly crude or graphic just because we can (not that we’re above that, mind you). Rather, we wish to make our values and our point-of-view absolutely clear to our readers and our viewers. Not through words, but through our stories and characters.

Oh, and NO A.I. to be clear about that!
